Child Safe Practices Do's and Don'ts
Protecting children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. By being informed and learning best practice we can build a safe sporting culture.
Our Children and Young People Safe Practices Do’s and Don’ts booklet and video resources provide helpful advice to identify and prevent behaviour that may be harmful to children and young people participating in sport.
Safeguarding Practice – Do's and Don’ts videos
Sport Integrity Australia has created a library of 13 Safeguarding Practice Do's and Don'ts videos, for parents and carers, sports and clubs, and coaches.
Each video highlights a key learning from the Safeguarding in Sport Children and Young People Safe Practices Do’s and Don’ts booklet (see below).

Child safeguarding practices in sport: A guide for managing high-risk activities
This essential resource for managing high-risk activities was developed for the benefit of children and young people who engage in Australian sport. Children and young people all have the right to feel safe in sport, and it’s everyone’s responsibility in sport to keep them safe.
The guide helps sporting organisations identify and reduce risks in environments where children may be vulnerable to harm or abuse, such as:
- overnight camps and competitions
- travelling and hosting arrangements
- change rooms and public environments
- online spaces.
It also offers practical steps for organisations to protect young athletes, from implementing safe travel protocols, to promoting digital safety and clear communication.
The guide complements our existing Do's and Don'ts booklet and has been created with input from key stakeholders including the National Office for Child Safety, Vicsport , and the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian.
