In-advance Therapeutic Use Exemption

Certain sports and athletes require an in-advance Therapeutic Use Exemption prior to taking medications containing substances or methods prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.

2024 – In-Advance TUE Criteria 

  1. The following athletes for all sports are required to apply for an in-advance Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE): 

  • Athletes in the Sport Integrity Australia Registered Testing Pool (RTP), National Testing Pool (NTP) and Domestic Testing Pool (DTP); (Athletes selected to be part of the RTP, NTP or the DTP will be officially notified by Sport Integrity Australia).  

  • Athletes selected for Australian Olympic (Summer & Winter), Paralympic (Summer & Winter), or Commonwealth Games teams – not including Youth Competitions  

  1. If you are an athlete in a sport listed below and you meet one or more of the criteria for that sport you are required to apply for an in-advance TUE. 

Athletes who are classified as an international level athlete by their International Federation and/or compete in international events either overseas or in Australia must check with the relevant International Federation or Event Organiser regarding their TUE requirements. AFL 
  • Any player contracted to an AFL and AFLW team/squad.
Baseball 
  • Any member of the Team Australia team/squad (Opens) 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the Australian Baseball League (ABL) 

Basketball  
  • Any member of the Boomers, Opals, Rollers, Gliders, Gangurrus (3x3 Men’s and Women’s) team/squad 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the National Basketball League (NBL)  

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL)

Cricket 
  • Any member of a National open team/squad including Test Cricket, One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) 

  • Any player contracted to compete in the Big Bash Leagues (BBL/WBBL) 

  • Any player contracted to compete in the National One Day Series (ODC/WNCL) 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the Sheffield Shield  

Field Hockey 
  • Any member of the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos team/squad 

  • Any player selected to play in the HockeyOne League (Men’s and Women’s) 

Football (Soccer)
  • Any member of the Socceroos, Olyroos (u23), Matildas, ParaRoos and ParaMatildas team/squad 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the A-League Men’s competition 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the A-League Women’s competition. 

Ice Hockey 
  • Any member of the Team Australia team/squad (Men’s and Women’s) 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the Australian Ice-Hockey League (AIHL) 

Netball  
  • Any member of the Australian Diamonds team/squad 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) competition – excluding training partners and replacement players. 

Rugby League 
  • Any member of the Kangaroos and Jillaroos team/squad 

  • Any player included in the Top 30 team/squad for each NRL Club 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership team/squad. 

Rugby Union 
  • Any member of the Wallabies, Wallaroos, AU 7’s (Men’s and Women’s) and National U20's team/squad 

  • Any player contracted to a Super Rugby team/squad. 

  • Any player contracted to a Super W team/squad. 

Volleyball  Any member of the Volleyroos (Men’s, Women’s and Beach)   
Water Polo 
  • Any member of the Australian Stingers and Sharks team/squad 

  • Any player selected/contracted to compete in the Australian Water Polo Men’s and Women’s League (AWL)
