Play True, it starts with you!
On this Play True Day, the global sporting community is being asked to consider the role we all play in ensuring sport is clean and fair for all.
The inspiration for Play True Day stems from an Education Conference hosted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in 2013, attended by 17 Latin American countries.
Since 2014, in April of every year, the anti-doping community worldwide has come together to celebrate Play True Day.
It’s a day dedicated to clean sport and raising awareness among athletes, the sporting public and others with a role in preventing doping.
This year's theme is Play True – It Starts With You.
Individuals and organisations across the globe have been taking part in a Play True social media challenge focused on sharing a 30-second fitness-based challenge, raising awareness on the effort and dedication of athletes and the importance of fair play.
Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) CEO, Dr Sarah Benson, said Play True Day was an important reminder of the role we all have to play in championing clean sport.
“Sport Integrity Australia is committed to ensuring we have a fair and competitive environment, where athletes can participate with integrity,” Dr Benson said.
“We work every day with the mission to ensure our sporting community is one where athletes can thrive, free from doping and harm, and all athletes can compete on equal footing.
“However, we know we can’t achieve this on our own and we need to work with our sporting community to deliver a level playing field for all.
“We’re working closely with sports and athletes across Australia, in both the anti-doping testing space as well as the education and awareness space to reduce the incidence of doping – both deliberate and unintentional – in sport.
“We’re also building stronger connections with our partners nationally and internationally in the field of anti-doping along with law enforcement, to strengthen our programs as we lead into the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, and beyond.
“Working collaboratively, we can protect sport together and the health and welfare of athletes.”
