Safer Internet Day 2025 – Keeping sport positive online
Tuesday, 11 February 2025, is global Safer Internet Day. Led by the eSafety Commissioner in Australia, Safer Internet Day is a day of action dedicated to making the internet a safer and more positive place for all.
11 February 2025
This year, Safer Internet Day has 5 core messages, which everyone involved in sport can model:
-
Be kind: Practice respect, empathy and kindness online.
-
Be mindful: Balance your time online and consume and share positive and respectful content.
-
Speak up: Report online abuse and harmful content.
-
Start the conversation: Talk about online safety at your sport club and follow the child safe practices for online communication.
- Share resources: Visit the eSafety Sports hub and share Sport Integrity Australia’s resources.
Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) Director of Education, Alexis Cooper, said SIA has put a lot of work into arming sports with the tools needed to create a safer online environment.
“Safe and fair sport doesn’t just end on the pitch – we know that the online space is also a vulnerable place for sporting people and organisations,” Ms Cooper said.
“We work with our partners at eSafety, the Australian Cyber Security Centre and academia to make sure sport organisations, athletes, and communities feel empowered to remain safe online.
“From our eLearning resources on cyber safety, safeguarding resources for children, to research into cyber bullying, we want people in sport to feel safe at all times– whether it’s on field or online.”
