Webinar: How to create a safe and supportive environment

Understanding the risk environments within sport will go a long way to creating a safe and supportive environment for children and young people.

To help administrators, volunteers and parents do this, Sport Integrity Australia is launching a new Education webinar series starting with: 'Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport…the What, Why & How behind Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport'.

Presented by Sport Integrity Australia's Director Safeguarding, Lisa Purves, the webinar will look at:

  • The high-risk environments for preventing the abuse of children and young people in sport.
  • Understanding the 4 pillars of risk in a sporting context.
  • Understanding types of offenders and what you can do to prevent harm or abuse from occurring.
  • Applying a situational prevention approach to child safe risk management.

“We all want sport to be a safe and friendly environment for children and young people, but not everyone knows what this actually looks like,” Ms Purves said.

“This webinar is designed to change that. It’s not about policies, it’s about understanding the risk environment for children - how to identify those risks and how to keep them safe.”

She said the webinar is open to all participants and members of sport across all levels including administrators, volunteers and parents.

“We are committed to ensuring that child safety is embedded in every club and every sporting organisation in Australia. Safeguarding your sport starts here.”

The online webinar is on: Wednesday 8 November 2023 from 7.30-8.30pm (AEDT). Register via this link: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams.
